The Racks for the BMW 3 Series changed to an electric rack in 2007, this rack then ran until 2011.
Typical problems that these racks can suffer from are:
• A knocking coming from inside the steering rack
• The motors on top of the racks can become noisy
• Complete electronic failure of the electric components on the rack.
These problems can all be solved with replacing the steering rack.
